Events Galore?

About two weeks ago I made a post about all the events that are going on in August in the games I play. There’s an Overwatch Olympic event, the Legion pre-patch stuff on WoW, Moonfire Faire and Yo-Kai event on FFXIV. And then I haven’t even looked at Wildstar or Guild Wars 2 yet.
Although I very enthusiastically tried to participate in all of them, I have to admit defeat and say it’s just too much. I’ve had a very unlucky streak in Overwatch with opening boxes and even winning games so I didn’t get near as much loot as I hoped I would. This is a real shame because some of the Olympic skins are seriously amazing and I’m sad I didn’t actually get more than two of them so far. I got footballer Lúcio and Track&Field Tracer but that’s it. It’s a shame Blizzard won’t let you buy the skins with currency either, so if you don’t obtain them now, you’ll never obtain these things again. I did get some stuff obviously, victory poses, sprays, icons, the same damn Tracer Highlight 3 times (really Blizz?). But by far not enough. I guess you really need to have Overwatch as your maingame and spam it everyday to even get close to obtaining everything there is to have. Alas. I’ll have tomorrow during daytime and Monday evening to obtain a few more levels and hopefully a few more event chests. I really really hope I can get the Mercy skin since she’s one of my most played champions, together with Lúcio and Soldier 76. I guess we’ll see.

In WoW I’ve been using and abusing the shit out of the invasions. It’s gotten my Shaman to level 100 and fully geared (ilvl 704!) and I’ve gotten a few transmog items. I’m still chasing the Bow on my Hunter, so I’ll probably be focussing mostly on her for the invasions untill the actual Legion launch.
I’ve really been struggling to pick a “main” for Legion. I thought it would be my Warrior first and foremost and although I’m still on that train of thought I’ve been really into my Shammy again. I love the Elemental specc and the damage output right now is just insane. Maybe I should just let the whole idea of  “main” fade and just play what I enjoy at that moment. I mean I do the same on FFXIV, so why not do it on WoW? I know that I’ll spread out my achievements and everything but well. Achievements are account bound and it doesn’t really matter which character earns it, aslong as it’s earned. So far the classes I enjoy playing are Warrior, Shaman, Hunter and my newbie Demon Hunter. I’ve not really looked at anything else yet. I’ve burned out on Priest play over the last expansion and although I love Paladin gear, I’m just not really digging the class right now. Warlock, Rogue and Death Knight are all classes I’m not even looking at right now which leaves me with Mage, Monk and Druid. I have all of these characters at level 100 but honestly I just really can’t be arsed to log them right now. I might change my mind later on and level up another batch of alts over Legion, but I’m starting with two cool Alliance characters and two cool Horde characters first and foremost.

As for FFXIV… I’ve not really done much of the Yo-Kai event anymore. I know I’m close to getting my fourth weapon on Sandrian but that’s it. I’ve been mostly focussed on upgrading my relic and this weekend on running PotD. I’m really close to getting my first weapon (+22/+23) and I think I’ve decided to use it on my Astrologian. I really love healing on that class and she’ll be the only one without a decent weapon otherwise, so that’s more or less settled too. I know most people already have a few weapons but my time on FFXIV is being replaced with WoW and OW for the past weeks so I’m just taking it nice and slow. I don’t think I’ll max out my stats from the 41-50 run that my Ninja is currently on, but I hope I can get as close as I possibly can and then not have to run that godawful place for a while.

All in all it’s been quite busy gaming wise. Having so many events going on at once is seriously sucky when you already have limited gaming time and when you’re feeling a bit meh about gaming in general. I hope my mood improves soon. Not sure why I’m feeling like this. Maybe it’s just the weather.

The Summer Is Magic

After a more personal post yesterday I want to return to games and gaming today, I mean that’s the whole reason I’ve started this blog in the first place anyway right?
Today’s topic covers a magical summer filled with all sorts of lovely events taking place in many of our favourite games. I’ll start off with FFXIV and the second big event that’s taking place in Eorzea next to the craziness that is Yo-Kai medal farming.

I present to you the official art for the Moonfire Faire of 2016! This time Square is preying on our nostalgia and introducing the Power Rangers into our Eorzean lives. I’ve personally not started the quests yet, but I know you can obtain armor, emotes, furniture and an orchestion scroll. I’m absolutely planning on completing this event on both Sandrian and Sarella but reading about a lot of bugs going on right now I think I’ll just wait a few days before throwing myself into the fray. Atleast there will be enough to do next to Yo-Kai farming, my weekly Crystal Tower raids and trying to cap Lore. I already did Weeping City and Void Ark for this week luckily, so I don’t have to worry about those.
Next to that I’m slowly levelling up my alts with all the FATES that I run for the Yo-Kai medals and doing Crystal Tower on my level 50ish characters. So far it’s netted me one level on my MCH, one on my AST and one on my MNK. So I’m slowly heading to 60 on everything!

Next to events in Eorza there’s also a lot of things happening/about to happen in the Blizzard universe. The Legion invasions will start somewhere this coming week so I’ll be on WoW a bit more, soaking it up and experiencing all of it. I have the game pre-ordered, but not via Blizzard so I can’t dive into the Demon Hunter experience yet, and that’s fine with me.
Next to WoW shenanigans a new season has kicked off in Diablo 3 aswell. To be quite honest, I’ve not touched D3 in a very long time and I don’t think I will spend any time playing this current season. I’ve fallen out of love with that game a while ago, mostly because the people I normally play with have all quit… And the constant grinding of the same stuff over and over is starting to get really, really boring. Even the seasonal rewards don’t have me coming back to the game. So unless Blizzard is going to make a major announcement at Blizzcon about Diablo, I think for me that’s a closed chapter for now and I won’t be returning to Sanctuary for a long time.

An event that has caught my attention is the summer games event in Overwatch.
I’ve not played Overwatch that much since launch, but I can never pass up goodies in a game, especially since I can earn them for free! So I’ve strapped on my Overwatch boots again and have about five games under my belt today, and opened a few loot boxes that made me very happy. I got one of the valkyrie skins for Mercy, who is by far my favourite champion, and one of the Summer Games highlight clips, more specifically the one for Tracer. I’m really enjoying myself playing Overwatch for now. Although I end up mostly playing supportive characters like Mercy and Lúcio, I also know my way around on Soldier 76 and Tracer. I hope I can play enough to unlock lots of lootboxes and earn lots of the Summer Games stuff before the event ends on August 22nd.

The last big thing going on is the new Adventure for Hearthstone. Apparently we are getting a partied up version of Kharazan to dawdle around in and I’ve been slowly saving up gold so I can start unlocking the wings as they come out. Blizzard made a tiny prologue to the adventure that is free to play for everyone, so I’m curious to see how that turns out. aswell.

All in all August is going to be a busy month with plenty events, releases and other stuff going on. And I haven’t even mentioned No Man’s Sky or the actual Legion launch yet!

No Overwatch?

Honestly on launch day I can’t really ignore the fact that Overwatch is now officially playable. I dipped my toes in earlier this evening after dinner, but a pounding head and an overwhelming desire to sleep drove me away from the game to relaxation instead. Trying to learn new heroes and staying with the pace of the game while also trying to not fall asleep in my chair wasn’t really doable, so I’ll probably play some more over the week and then talk a bit more about it aswell.
Instead I want to talk a bit about Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright.

A local multimedia store had a nice sale going this week. Buy three games and only pay for two. I took this opportunity to nab a copy of Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World for my WiiU but also my very first Fire Emblem game. I have heard a lot about the series and they seem to have gotten positive reviews, plus I have a serious weakness for JRPG graphics in a game so I got the last nudge I needed to pick up the game and experience what it’s all about. I picked Birthright because apparently it’s the easier of the two latest Fire Emblem games that are out now. I plopped the game into my 3DS last night and played for a bit before hopping onto FFXIV for my roulettes. I’ve also played a bit on the train to work this morning and on the way back home and I think I’m done with the prologue/tutorial part, which takes about 1.5 hours to complete. I unlocked my castle and built my first building and now I’m kind of poking around what exactly I need to be doing to advance in the game. I think I’ll need multiple playthroughs in this game to begin with because the game lets you choose multiple storylines and I kind of want to explore them all… But let’s just start with the one I chose: the Hoshido story. I play the game on Classic mode since that is apparently how it’s meant to be played and I managed to already get two of my dudes killed off so that’s a good start, right?!
So far the story is a bit thin but the graphics and music of the game are absolutely stunning. I haven’t been able to skip a single cutscene just because how breathtaking the design of this game looks. I like how you can customize your character up to a point and how they allow you to switch your hairstyle halfway through the game. As said I’m only 1.5 hours in so I can’t really comment too much on the game yet, but it looks to be an epic experience and I’ve currently set aside all my other handheld games to play it.

From what I understood the story of this game is cut up in three separate games so if I would want to experience it fully I’d need to get my hands on the other two paths aswell. However since this is my first game and I’m not sure how much I like the franchise yet I think I’ll stick to finishing Birthright first, and then I can always look into getting Conquest and/or Revelations later. Maybe Nintendo will let us purchase the other paths for cheaper when the games are out longer. Who knows. For now though the game has really captivated me and I want to know how the story unfolds and how bad (or good) I really am at the strategy parts of this game.

Vacation Inbound
My two-and-a-half weeks off are getting closer and closer aswell. With officially only 5 days of work still ahead of me I can feel my body ache for some nice relaxing time off. My vacation starts on June 2nd and I won’t have to go back to work untill June 20th. The idea of having 18 days off is seriously amazing and I’ve also booked a 4-day citytrip to Lisbon to get me out of the country and the house for a bit. I hope I can use this time to sort through a lot of junk on the attic and in the shed, tie up loose ends in my life, work out a lot and maybe finish a game or two that I have bought over the years. It’s just a really nice feeling to not have any obligations or alarm clocks in my life for a bit and that I finally can spend my time the way I want to without feeling guilty, because next to having 18 days off I also have the house to myself. My father and his girlfriend are going on vacation to Canada for almost 5 weeks, and I will have the house and car to myself for that time. So yay for me!
As for the rest of this week, I’m going to be very busy so I doubt I can get much gaming hours in. I do hope to push my Machinist to level 50 though with my Monk trailing not that far behind. But Overwatch will dominate my free time the most.

Winter Is Coming

As the days are getting colder it’s getting more and more cozy to cuddle up in a blanket and stay inside all day. Even on my days off I rarely stick my nose out of the door and it’s been very relaxing. So much stuff has come my way that just sitting down with a big steaming mug filled with tea and watch a League of Legends stream is probably the best thing I could wish for right now. No stress, no action required by me. Just sitting back and relaxing.

Overwatch
I managed to get into the Overwatch stress test weekend this weekend and while I was initially all hyped up for it… I have to admit I barely played. I did a few games on Friday evening to get a look and feel of the game and test out some champions that I thought would be nice to play beforehand. So I played Mercy, Klinkhamer, Soldier 76 and Widowmaker and after that I more or less got bored.
The game itself is fast paced enough, I don’t think any match took me longer than 10 minutes. It’s really chaotic and you need to be aware of your surrounding at all times. I found out I do better in supporting roles (Klinkhamer and Mercy) than when I need to fight on the forefront… But I managed to get some decent kills in on Soldier 76.
All in all it seems to be a very noobfriendly FPS, something that I really needed.

The one thing this game is missing big time (in my opinon atleast) right now is some sort of personal tracking system. You see your stats at the end of every game, but in the main menu you can’t see any game history or some sort of tracking how you perform in the different roles. So the only thing you get to do is queue and play and rinse and repeat this for the entire duration. Ofcourse me having to soloqueue all the time doesn’t really help either, I like games the most when I can share them with friends. But since I’m the only one from my circle who seemed to have gotten in, it’s mostly been a very lonely experience for me.

On the other side I’ve been able to grind my Ninja to level 50 on Moogle. She’s actually almost level 51 already and so very fun to play. The only skills I haven’t really incorporated in my rotation yet are the ones I got today (Trick Attack and Kassatsu) but I’m sure I will learn eventually. It looks like my level 52 ability will be one that is very beneficial for Black Mages (or really anyone who overaggroes the tank) since I can reduce the enmity of a single party member with Smoke Bomb. This makes Ninja even more utility oriented than they already were seeing as they can also provide TP for one party member.
I already have an almost complete set of gear ready for when I ding 60. I just lack the rings, a chest and some pants. I guess I really should start doing some ex-roulette and void ark on my Dragoon so I can use all that to gear up my Ninja who I will probably be rerolling to. After that I will see. There are still so many classes not max level for me and I had planned to stick my nose into crafting this expansion, so I might just see that through.

On World of Warcraft I got my baby Mage to level 100 and geared her up with about two hours of Timewalking. She’s now sitting on ilvl 660 and I do better DPS than one of our raidmages… Who sits on ilvl 707. Yeah he’s that bad. I really enjoy playing my Mage and will probably do a bit more on her over the coming weeks. It feels nice to be on a character that can only DPS so I don’t have to switch roles, only speccs. It can be really exhausting to switch between Healer and DPS all the time and sometimes I wish I never rolled a hybrid to begin with. But what’s done is done and there’s no going back.

I’m also enjoying playing Hearthstone and watching movies on my tablet as part of my bedtime ritual. I watched Life of Pi last night before going to bed and absolutely loved the movie. It’s so colourful and the story is something that is completely up my alley. I don’t fancy these high action movies much and prefer movies with a strong story or a story that makes you think. This was one of such movies and combined with the gorgeous effects it was definately not two hours of my time wasted.
The next thing I really want to watch is the documentary about Christiano Ronaldo, I’m a huge football fan and I think he works so hard for his success. I’m really curious to get a glimpse into his life to see how he manages all of it.

On Wildstar Bugs and No Betas

I have been struggling with Wildstar over the past weeks. The attention it has gotten after it went free to play a few weeks ago is enormous and the company is still trying to process everything, which I can understand.
Both Entity and Jabbit still suffer from tremendous lag spikes for me every now and then, but it’s something to be expected and something I can essentially cope with. What has been bothering me the last week specifically however has been the ingame store and it’s currencies… Specifically Omnibits.
Let’s start at the start. On Wildstar EU and NA servers had traditionally been separated and crossover play was not possible. With the f2p launch this barricade fell away and I could make a character on NA to play with some of the folks from Twitter. I had been playing both my EU and NA characters and was earning Omnibits (one of the currencies used for the ingame store) separately. Both were around 120 of them when the Halloween event dropped and Carbine added a few holiday only items to it’s store.
Thrilled to see purple, orange and black dyes I bought the Dye set on my EU char and got deducted the 115 Omnibits it had cost me. I figured I wanted to do the same over on NA and logged there… Only to find out I lost 115 Omnibits there aswell without seeing the Dyes in my inventory. After making a ticket about this the Wildstar support staff decided to grant me the Dyes on my NA character aswell but not refund the Omnibits.
I logged in to pick them up.. Only to see that I had suddenly no Omnibits at all anymore on my Engineer! This quickly resolved itself after I relogged to EU and back and now it seems that both my EU and NA character are working towards the same number of Omnibits.
However this has cost me a lot of them since I’m fairly sure the earnings were separate at the start. So now I’m back to sitting on about 35 Omnibits after a lot of hassle instead of the about 200 I should be sitting on instead. Ohwell. Atleast they granted me my Dyes! Now to see if I can get my Top Hat of Souls restored somehow aswell…
Don’t get me wrong. This is not a major thing in the game and I’m sure the developers are still figuring out how to arrange everything. It just feels like, when crossplaying, the Omnibits system kind of bugged out at the start and started counting separately while it should have been adding all the Omnibits to my account, regardless of region. I’m just a bit salty over losing a lot of Omnibits this way, but it’s not gamebreaking in the sense that I will now stop playing Wildstar. I just wish things were clearer and more functional.
Another major thing that has happened is the overwatch beta.  Unfortunately i didnt manage to get in and i am honestly quite salty about it. I feel like the invites have mostly gone to people who have a large fanbase so they can show off the game on their stream of social media. So here i sit with no beta. I guess i will find some other way to spend my time…
